May we live in interesting times...

"May you live in interesting times", often referred to as the Chinese curse, It is reported that it was the first of three curses of increasing severity, the third one being:

  • "May you find what you are looking for." This is sometimes quoted as "May your wishes be granted." or "Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it"...
I have no intention suggesting this is a curse, it could very well be a wonderful blessing but we can't know, only the future will tell - I'm talking about the digital revolution of the last decade.

It has unleashed creativity and talent in an unprecedented way, with unlimited opportunities.
But does democratized culture mean better art or is true talent instead drowned out? This is the question addressed by PressPausePlay, a wonderful documentary film containing interviews with some of the world's most influential creators of the digital era.

As an artist, you might be experiencing a similar mixture of good/bad as technology makes it easier for you to create but at the same time puts you on a longer, more crowded line for true recognition and worthy compensation...would love for you to share your thoughts with me/us here on the blog!

  1. Oh.. wow!!! Vered this hits me right in the gut. I am one of these I always thought it. This is a topic where I thought no one really talked about this I always thought about man back in the day it was so different to say you were and artist and people actually support you and declare you just one now a days everyone wants thinks they can. I work damn hard for example I edit photos I just only use lightroom and i find ways to change or make and deal with what you have just one source same as comic life just one tool everyone tells me t take it here then move it there and do this then render it here take it there. but its is hard to like they said break out of all the noise or in other words stand out. And when you do its amazing. I can sit and talk about this literally all day and night....I LOVED THIS DOCUMENTARY!!!

  2. I so know how you feel...but I try to look at it as a challenge instead of a depressor (not saying it's easy to do...). I am truly curious to see if this ends up as a blessing or a curse - or maybe something else altogether?...
