Lavalier mic test

I know how important audio equipment is and I'm always told that you need to spend a LOT of money on quality gear and a lot of time that is true - you get what you pay for...

So I went and got a wired lavailer for under $25... it's the Audio-Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone from Audio Technica which makes great high end stuff (no joke) so I figured I'll give it a try.

Here it is with no futzing around, also since it's mono I will have to duplicate the track to get the stereo effect (didn't do it for this test).

I'm teaching myself to edit with my new acquisition - Adobe Premier Pro 5.5, it's a bit more complicated then Sony Vegas but I love it already (have to figure out where everything is again, lol!)

I'm going to get another one to have as an interview set, the cord is 20 ft long (!!!) so you can have the recording deck or camera (if you are plugged directly) pretty far away :)
I got mine at Adorama but you can get it online as well (just Google it), the price hovers around $20.

BTW, the squirrel has nothing to do with the audio test, he was just there being cute :)

  1. Audio is one of the most important parts of any video! Many say that it's more important than the video.
Going wired (vs. wireless) is my preferred method if the subject isn't moving. Less opportunity for interference.

    This mic sounds excellent!

  2. Thanks Patrick, hope you can help me test it further soon so we know what the limitation of this mic are :)

  3. Audio technica has always made excellent mics for a low price. I've chosen them over Shure for pro sound in the past. Wired makes it a lot cheaper, but on location managing the (trip) wires gets in the way and can be hazardous to your gear.

  4. Oh yes they can! I remember before starting to use wireless devices to trip studio strobes...I had multiple near heart attacks, lol!

I would love your opinion on this mic if you happen to know - the Rode videomic pro, to use on a run & gun with my Vixia (videocam) or DSLR?
